Our Clients on Personal and Management Development

We recently spoke to our clients about management and personal development. Those surveyed included senior managers in medium to large private businesses and various public sector organisations.

We made some interesting discoveries:

  • Within the workplace, it seems that the focus is intensifying on managerial training.
  • The emerging pattern surrounding training budgets reflects the importance that these organisations are placing on training; Training budgets are increasing year on year for 45% of respondents and 44% plan to maintain annual current spend.
  • We also found that one-to-one confidential Coaching is now taking a substantial proportion of organisations’ training budgets.
  • Given the flexibility of coaching in addressing specific and individual development needs, it seems that a transition in the status of coaching is occurring, as it becomes a necessity and not just a nicety.
  • Tailored one-to-one coaching is becoming a significant element of the approach to developing senior staff in particular, away from the wider, generic training that has often been more typically on offer in the past.

These views from a diverse and representative range of UK organisations suggest that Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is becoming increasingly embedded within our working culture.
